According to Wikipedia Role playing is the changing of one's behaviour to assume a role, either unconsciously to fill a social role, or consciously to act out an adopted role.
The term is used more loosely in four senses:
- To refer to the playing of roles generally such as in a theater, or educational setting;
- To refer to taking a role of an existing character or person and acting it out with a partner taking someone else's role, often involving different genres of practice;
- To refer to a wide range of games including computer role-playing games, play-by-mail games and more;
- To refer specifically to role-playing games.[2]
Now I guess I should clarify why I am blogging about role play. On Saturday night hubby and I had an "Ugly Christmas Sweater Party" to attend. We scoured the city high and low in search of some ugly Christmas sweaters, we ended up at Value Village - sure that we would find the ugly sweaters we were seeking...
These pictures capture the exact look we were after. Unfortunately it seemed that the entire store was filled with people searching for the same look we were. Hubby did find a nice (by nice I mean ugly) valuer forest green turtle neck and I found an over size red poncho sweater. Since they weren't exactly what we were looking for we decided if we added some bells and whistles it might spice them up a bit. We stubbled across some snowman ornaments with names on them.

Tony & Janet |
Since my name would be impossible to find we decided to pick different names and we would go by these names all evening. Mine was Janet and hubby's was Tony. We had so much fun all night calling each other by our pretend new names and acting as if we had just met at this party, it has got me thinking about role play. It can definitely spice up a marriage, but is 4 months of marriage too soon to be spicing it up? I personally don't think so, it was fun and Tony was amazing! LOL He could literally do no wrong in Janet's eyes. Overall I say go for it, try something new and spice it up! Whether you've been together for 20 years or 20 months! It's never too soon to try something new!
